The Quartet began when UCO jazz instructor and Jazz Lab manager, Lee Rucker, mentioned to Jeremy Thomas, who was a UCO student at the time, that the UCO Jazz Lab needed a Hammond organ and Leslie speaker as a house instrument for the venue. He would get one if Jeremy would do two things: start an organ group and be a part of the organ group. Without hesitation, Jeremy accepted the terms and conditions. From there, the organ was purchased, fellow UCO students Mitch Bell and Willie Peterson joined Jeremy in jam sessions after Jazz Band rehearsals on campus and away, and the Quartet was organized. The Jeremy Thomas Quartet made their debut appearance February 14, 2004, at the University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Lab in Edmond, Oklahoma, as the opening act for jazz pianist, Kenny Warner. Their first CD, Jeremy Thomas Quartet: Live at the UCO Jazz Lab, was recorded on April 15, 2004. Live at the Jazz Lab, Series Two was recorded in June of 2005. The Quartet got their big break playing at the renowned Charlie Christian Jazz Festival in Oklahoma City in 2006. The Quartet performed for the Oklahoma Safety and Health Council in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2007. In 2008, the Jeremy Thomas Quartet headlined BLAC, Inc.’s anniversary event at the Petroleum Club in Oklahoma City. They performed with singer Leah Joelle Hendricks at the historic Jazz Depot in Tulsa, at Spring Into Gala, an event honoring African American women entrepreneurs in 2010. The Quartet currently performs at many festivals and venues, and has hosted many major jam sessions around Oklahoma.
